SUMMARY:Volunteer Orientation for Summer Children's Group
DESCRIPTION:Vancouver Unitarians is largely lay-led over the summer while ministry staff have vacation and study time in preparation for the new program year.  It is important for children of all ages to feel included and cared for no matter what time of year they attend. \nThis orientation is to support those able to volunteer to be available for children on 2 or more Sundays between July 6th and August 31st. Orientation is offered on two dates: Thursday\, June 26th at 5:30 pm\, and Sunday\, June 29th at 12:45 pm. \nSign-up at vanu.ca/summer-orientation to be on the roster and attend an orientation. New dancers welcome! \nWe’ll dance dances that celebrate the joy\, sun and Summer energy of June as well as dances that were choreographed by June Watts\, one of the most beloved (Sacred) Circle Dance facilitators who danced to the other side in 2022. \nJune started facilitating Circle Dance in the early 80s after her Findhorn training. She shared danceshops and teacher trainings throughout the world\, including Western Canada for over 30 years. Her lighter\, spritely\, spunky and spirited side danced harmoniously with her deep\, earth–grounding\, reverent side. DESCRIPTION:A Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) Café:\nInformation and Discussion about MAiD when Death is Not Reasonably Foreseeable (Track 2)\nMAiD (Medical Assistance in Dying) is an end-of-life care option that has evolved since the legislation was first introduced in Canada in 2016. MAiD is governed by federal law\, guided by professional best practice guidelines and operationalized by the Health Authorities in British Columbia. Since 2021\, the MAiD legislation has included two pathways: Track 1 for individuals whose death is reasonably foreseeable and Track 2 for those with a serious health condition that causes suffering\, but who are not expected to die from that condition in the near future. DESCRIPTION:New dancers welcome! \nDances are held the first Tuesday of every month.  Our Theme for March is Awakening the Earth: Awakening Ourselves. \nOur February dance was cancelled due to snow and icy conditions. Early March is well past Imbolc – the mid-point of winter – and while we will be just a couple of weeks away from the spring equinox\, we are still in the space between winter and spring.  Rebecca Douglas says that “The liminal energy of Imbolc\, the space and threshold between winter and spring\, hold profound lessons for how we navigate change in our own lives. It reminds us that growth often begins in subtle\, unseen ways\, and that embracing these transitions can lead to transformation.” \nThrough dance\, we will explore how this liminal energy can provide guidance to us through these difficult times. SUMMARY:Solstice Community Dinner and Celebration
DESCRIPTION:Vancouver Unitarians have a great tradition of holding intergenerational community dinners and social events. \nOn Saturday\, Dec 21st. 5pm-8:30pm you’re invited to join us for a Winter Solstice community dinner in Hewett Centre (949 W. 49th Ave on the Vancouver Unitarians campus).  This time of year can be hectic\, busy\, full of demands. Let us gather to take a pause\, lean into rest and joy; it is what this time of year is supposed to be about. The Fireside Room will be turned over to blanket fort building–all children and young at heart are invited to play and create. The main Hall will be a space of reflection and connection over food as we turn the corner on the longest night of the year. \nWe’ll be making spaghetti for dinner. RSVP below to be counted among the pasta partakers! \nAll welcome to bring additional food or drinks or desserts to share.  Also blankets and pillows to add to the fort building!

SUMMARY:Fundraising Lunch for Burma
DESCRIPTION:The VU IPA and other teams have been together with the local Burmese (Myanmar) community to raise both awareness and funds in support of Burmese citizens ravaged by a military dictatorship and civil war. \nWe warmly invite you to attend our next event Sunday\, Dec. 1st.  The Burmese community will be catering a delicious lunch following the service. We are looking forward to a large crowd and please donate as generously as you are able.  Funds raised will be donated to Inter Pares\, an international charity recognized by Canada. \nKyi Min Saw\, who attends VU\, is courageously leading the local Burma campaign fundraising. \n\nThank you and we look forward to sharing Burmese food with you on Sunday\, Dec. 1.

DESCRIPTION:We are living in both beautiful and bewildering times\, and many of us feel the need to come together to try to make sense of it all. \nOn Wednesday\, November 6th\, at 7:00pm\, Rev. Shawn will facilitate a listening circle in the Fireside Room where we can talk about the complex feelings we’re carrying about global conflicts\, climate change\, and the state of democracy in the world. \nWhile there will be space to share what’s weighing on our hearts\, there will also be an invitation to look to where we can find hope and the seeds of resilience.
