DESCRIPTION:Come and celebrate the installation of our new-ish minister Shawn Gauthier at 4 p.m. on May 5th. That Sunday will look a little different\, in that the regular 11 a.m. service will be led by Rev. Claire Feingold-Thoryne\, a visiting minister and close friend of Shawn’s. \nThen at 4 p.m.\, we will have the formal Installation Service\, led by Shawn\, congregational leaders\, and visiting clergy which will include the full participation of the congregation. (Please click HERE for the words of promise that Shawn will say to us\, and we will say to him.) Also in attendance at the service will be visiting clergy from across Canada and the U.S.\, as well as representatives from the CUC and neighbouring Unitarian congregations. \nAt 5:30 p.m. we shall begin the reception in Hewett Hall\, with hors d’oeuvres by a caterer. Congregants are encouraged to bring sweet or savoury finger foods to make it a truly community feast. Given the large number of people in the Hall\, please try to bring something that requires little or no kitchen preparation. \nWe hope that you will join us on this rare ceremonial occasion. RSVP below so we can order the appropriate amount of food. So many aspects of our culture are designed to keep us apart that we find ourselves speaking different languages\, having different conversations and existing in different spaces. Let’s explore together some strategies from cross-cultural bridge building that might be able to help us get closer to those on the other side of the generational divide. One Unitarian’s community work perspective on living in a world which seems to be in such a mess. \nMichael Clague writes\, teaches\, and works in the fields of adult education\, community development\, and social planning. He currently works as a private consultant and as a community volunteer. In the past\, he has served as Director of the Carnegie Community Centre\, Director of Programs for SPARC BC\, Executive Director of SPARC BC\, and as Executive Director of the Community Council of Greater Victoria. \nMichael is the recipient of several notable awards\, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Council on Social Development and the Thakore Foundation Award for Service to the Carnegie Community Centre and Vancouver Eastside presented by SFU.
