Monthly themes revolve around connections\, skill sharing\, holidays\, rest\, and silliness. \nSeptember 27th is our first dinner – we are forming new Covenant Groups for the year and connecting with folks who have been meeting together for years to share wisdom on the beauty and depth of small groups.  Childcare staff is present to help keep an eye on children’s safety and inclusion so parents can participate freely. \nWho should plan to come? \n\nFamilies of all varieties and ages – however you define family\nLeaders or members of current covenant groups/identity groups that are open to new members\nAnyone who would like to join or form a small group this year\nPeople who have taken the small group facilitator training and could co-lead a new group\nMembers of current covenant groups willing to share their experience and wisdom\n\nWhat should I bring?\nPlease bring a side dish\, dessert\, or bread if you’re able. DESCRIPTION:Vancouver Unitarians is largely lay-led over the summer while ministry staff have vacation and study time in preparation for the new program year.  It is important for children of all ages to feel included and cared for no matter what time of year they attend. \nThis orientation is to support those able to volunteer to be available for children on 2 or more Sundays between July 6th and August 31st. Orientation is offered on two dates: Thursday\, June 26th at 5:30 pm\, and Sunday\, June 29th at 12:45 pm. \nSign-up at vanu.ca/summer-orientation to be on the roster and attend an orientation. SUMMARY:Evening Circle Worship
DESCRIPTION:Winter Circle Worship – Staying Present Amidst Chaos\nCircle Worship is an intimate and participatory style of worship featuring ritual\, togetherness\, and reflection. Unitarian Universalist youth have been creating this style of worship for decades but it is enjoyed by and accessible to all ages. \nCircle Worship is open to everyone; come fill your spirit! Wednesday\, February 26th in the Fireside Room\, 6:00-7:30 pm. Theme this month: Being Present\, to this moment\, amidst uncertainty. Rev. Shawn and Kiersten are planning a time of music\, singing\, bearing witness to the chaos unfolding in our world right now and countering our anxiety through creation. Central to the worship will be a time of creation and contemplation. Materials will be provided for writing\, drawing\, sculpting\, manipulating\, moving\, dancing\, and simply being with the music. \nWe will start with dinner at 6:00 pm–bring food to share and/or RSVP to join the pizza order.  Ritual starts at 6:45 and we will end by 7:30 pm. Donations towards future food fund accepted\, not required. \nAttending with Children\nChildren are welcomed to attend and participate with a caregiver–there will be floor space and movement space available. Worship and Ritual are meaningful for children\, but sometimes group worship can be challenging. If you’re wondering whether to attend with your child\, things to consider are: It will be about 45 min long; there will be listening and singing and creating time; does your child mostly self-direct and self-regulate or do they need your active attention and guidance? Do they enjoy being in contemplative spaces with mixed ages? If they need very active attention and guidance\, how do you feel about co-regulating with them vs. fully experiencing the worship for yourself? \nPlease RSVP below so that we know how much pizza to order and how many chairs to set out. (RSVP’s after Tuesday night may not get counted for pizza–but you are still welcome to attend!) \n  \n

This event has been held annually since 2005; It is personal and non-denominational\, with an artistic and communal atmosphere that speaks to our Unitarian Universalist principles. \nAll Souls at Mountain View Cemetery is an artist led annual event to honour our dead. It was conceived by artists Paula Jardine & Marina Szijarto. Over the years\, they have been joined by others who have shared their love and regard for their dead. \n“In many cultures around the world\, the days at the end of October and beginning of November are considered an important time for honouring the dead in our lives. In our modern\, urban\, and relatively transient culture\, traditional “village” customs have been left behind\, though not the human impulses that led to these traditions.” \nHeld during the last days of October\, people are invited to light candles\, write messages\, and leave personal memorials to remember their dead in an atmosphere of contemplative beauty. SUMMARY:Volunteer Orientation for Summer Children's Group
DESCRIPTION:Vancouver Unitarians is largely lay-led over the summer while ministry staff have vacation and study time in preparation for the new program year.  It is important for children of all ages to feel included and cared for no matter what time of year they attend. \nThis orientation is to support those able to volunteer to be available for children on 2 or more Sundays between June 30th and September 1st.  Orientation is offered on three dates: June 28th at 5pm\, June 29th at 6pm\, and June 30th at 12:45pm. \nSign-up Here to be on the roster and attend an orientation. Please contact Kiersten with questions or for more information. \n*All volunteers who work with children or youth require a police record check for the vulnerable sector current within three years.* There is no cost for volunteers.
