SUMMARY:Listening Circle on the State of the World
DESCRIPTION:We live in both beautiful and bewildering times\, and many of us feel the need to come together to try to make sense of it all. \nJoin us at in-person at 7pm when the Healthy Relations Team will facilitate a listening circle in the Fireside Room where we can talk about the complex feelings we’re carrying about global conflicts\, climate change\, and the state of democracy in the world. \nWhile there will be space to share what’s weighing on our hearts\, there will also be an invitation to look to where we can find hope and the seeds of resilience. All are welcome.

SUMMARY:Night for All Souls at Mountain View Cemetary
DESCRIPTION:Join Kiersten Moore and Casey Stainsby this Thursday at the Opening Ceremony for All Souls at Mountain View Cemetery. We will meet near the entrance at 5:45 pm to make it to the ceremony site for 6pm. This event has been held annually since 2005; It is personal and non-denominational\, with an artistic and communal atmosphere that speaks to our Unitarian Universalist principles. \nAll Souls at Mountain View Cemetery is an artist led annual event to honour our dead. It was conceived by artists Paula Jardine & Marina Szijarto. Over the years\, they have been joined by others who have shared their love and regard for their dead. \n“In many cultures around the world\, the days at the end of October and beginning of November are considered an important time for honouring the dead in our lives. In our modern\, urban\, and relatively transient culture\, traditional “village” customs have been left behind\, though not the human impulses that led to these traditions.” \nHeld during the last days of October\, people are invited to light candles\, write messages\, and leave personal memorials to remember their dead in an atmosphere of contemplative beauty. Often there is live music\, and small fires to gather around. \nVisit the All Souls at Moutain View website for more information and a list of all the events. \n

SUMMARY:Rev. Shawn's Installation
DESCRIPTION:Come and celebrate the installation of our new-ish minister Shawn Gauthier at 4 p.m. on May 5th. That Sunday will look a little different\, in that the regular 11 a.m. service will be led by Rev. Claire Feingold-Thoryne\, a visiting minister and close friend of Shawn’s. \nThen at 4 p.m.\, we will have the formal Installation Service\, led by Shawn\, congregational leaders\, and visiting clergy which will include the full participation of the congregation. (Please click HERE for the words of promise that Shawn will say to us\, and we will say to him.) Also in attendance at the service will be visiting clergy from across Canada and the U.S.\, as well as representatives from the CUC and neighbouring Unitarian congregations. \nAt 5:30 p.m. we shall begin the reception in Hewett Hall\, with hors d’oeuvres by a caterer. Congregants are encouraged to bring sweet or savoury finger foods to make it a truly community feast. Given the large number of people in the Hall\, please try to bring something that requires little or no kitchen preparation. \nWe hope that you will join us on this rare ceremonial occasion. RSVP below so we can order the appropriate amount of food. Please also to let us know if you are willing and able to help with set up or clean up. \nWe look forward to experiencing this celebration of our shared ministry together. \nCarolyn Grant and Michael O’Neil \nInstallation Committee Co-Chairs \nDownload the Order of Service

Ritual starts at 6:45 and we will end by 7:30 pm. \nPlease RSVP below so that we know how much pizza to order and how many chairs to set out. SUMMARY:Film: Myanmar – The Forgotten Revolution
DESCRIPTION:The IPA and Social Justice Teams and will be co-sponsoring the screening of the film MYANMAR The Forgotten Revolution (2022) Director Katie Arnold\, Journeyman Pictures. \n\nMyanmar may be the most violent among the 50 wars tracked globally with an estimated death toll of at least 50\,000 since the 2021 military coup\, including at least 8\,000 civilians.  The conflict has displaced approximately 2.3 million people\, according to the United Nations\, yet it has received relatively muted international attention compared to the crises in Ukraine and Gaza.\n\nThis rare film gives witness to  a forgotten revolution born out of decades of brutal oppression. After viewing the film\, the audience is welcome to stay for a discussion. Popcorn and snacks will be provided.

SUMMARY:Vancouver Unitarians Congregational Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The Board is inviting all members of Vancouver Unitarians to attend a congregational retreat on Saturday\, 9 March. We are very much looking forward to conferring with all of you on the strategic directions we\, as a congregation\, should pursue. Our theme is “Where are We Going?” \nAfter an opening song\, there will be icebreaker activities\, a presentation by the Board on our current state of affairs\, and then small group discussions.  The results of those discussions will be brought back to the whole group.  Then we will close the afternoon session with an outline of next steps as well as some announcements. \nThere will be a catered dinner starting at about 5:30 pm\, by donation. It will be followed at 6:15 pm by a coffee house organized by the youth – an opportunity to let our hair down and have some fun.  It would be great if everyone can stay for both the afternoon and evening\, but that may not be practical. Childcare is available upon request.  \nPlease RSVP below by Tuesday\, Mar. 5. This will greatly help us with organizing the sessions\, food\, and childcare for the day. We are looking forward to March 9 and hope you will be able to join us.
