SUMMARY:Forum on Homelessness
DESCRIPTION:Vancouver has 3200 people with no fixed address\, and homeless counts are increasing every year. SUMMARY:Exploration Sunday: Learning from Ancestors
DESCRIPTION:Exploration Sundays happen the first Sunday of each month and are meant to be an animating time for the whole congregation. The morning service launches the month’s worship and small-group theme with different explorations of that theme in programming following a light lunch. The intent is to engage everyone in the community-building and learning that this approach offers\, and make it easier for other groups to schedule events without competing programs. \nWorship Service 11:00 – 11:45 am\nNovember’s meaning making theme is  “the practice of learning from our ancestors’ experiences. Many of our ancestors lived through times of great upheaval. What can they offer us right now?” \nRev Shawn will reflect on a Home for All Souls\, and as we enter a time of meditation\, we will lift up the names of those we have loved who have died. To culminate\, we will create our Ancestor Shrine together for remembrance. \nClick here for the service page\, with the Order of Service and other useful links\nExploration Groups 12:15 – 1:30 pm\nThe service will be followed by a light lunch and then Exploration Groups are open to interested folks of all ages. This month’s groups are: \n\nBecoming a Good Ancestor: Rev. Shawn will lead a program inviting each of us to consider the legacy of love we will leave behind when our lives reach their end.\nArt in the Outdoors: creating symbols of reflection and impermanance\nCircle Dance: celebrating our ancestors through movement

SUMMARY:Circle Dance: Embracing the Darkness\, Honouring the Ancestors
DESCRIPTION:In our part of the world the harvest is finished\, and we are halfway between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice. Samhain marks the beginning of winter in Gaelic Ireland and is a time to honour our ancestors.  We will mark this transition by going deep: exploring the darkness of longer nights and shorter days\, knowing that the light and new life will return. \nWe will share dances that invite reflection and honour ancestors. All dances are taught and “there are no wrong steps\, only variations.” We welcome new and experienced dancers to our circle! \nContact Leslie Kemp (lesliekemp76[at]gmail.com) or Mairy Beam (mairyelesbea[at]gmail.com) for more information.

SUMMARY:Meditation and Chi Gong
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday mornings\, we have two offerings in our Meditation Room. \nFirst\, there is Chi Gong from 9 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. This practice is Chanting to clear organs and/or Chanting to clear chakras as originally taught by Dr. Steven Aung. Facilitated by Victoria Oginski. \nYou are also welcome to join us from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. for silent meditation. \nFor the past nine years\, the group has been led by Victoria Oginski\, who has been a dedicated meditator for over 45 years. She is a Buddhist and has studied with many extraordinary Buddhist masters over the years in Canada\, Nepal\, India\, and Tibet. Although informed by Buddhist principles\, the facilitation is more universal in approach and everyone is welcome. \nThere is no formal fee\, but please consider dana (donation) to VanU or the Refugee Committee.

SUMMARY:Sunday Service: To Re-Enchant the World
DESCRIPTION:Rev. Shawn Gauthier\nThere are aspects of the spiritual enterprise that invite us to lean into mystery and magic\, to wonder at the marvels of the universe all around us. Something of this has been lost over the past couple of centuries as our world has grown more secular. In this service\, Rev. Shawn will explore how we\, as “freethinking mystics with hands” (an apt description of UUs by Rev. Tom Owen-Towle)\, can hold to our rational roots while also embracing the more magical aspects of the spiritual life. \nDownload the Order of Service\nRelated Reading\nSermon text\nWeekly services\n\nWe gather every Sunday morning at 11am in our Sanctuary at 49th and Oak and online at vanu.ca/live. Worship creates connections within\, among\, and beyond us\, calling us to our better selves\, calling us to live with wisdom and compassion. \n\nAfter service\, we gather in Hewett Centre for Coffee and Social Hour. Families with children and newcomers are always welcome!
