Our present Covenant was approved in a congregation-wide vote 20 years ago. \nCovenants are important as they are promises to each other about how we want to be treated\, how to respect others and about how to handle disagreements\, which are a part of any kind of community. Renewal should be part of the process for ensuring that our Covenant is a living document that works for us today. This renewal is about checking in on how the Covenant has served us\, how it has worked and if it needs adjustments. We will invite your reflections on these questions and your ideas about what kind of covenant will serve us going forward. \nWe look forward to your participation!

DESCRIPTION:This event has passed.  The slide deck for this forum can be found here. \nPlease click here for additional reading materials related to this forum. \n  \nThe Doctrine of Discovery comprises several 15th century papal bulls proclaiming that Christian nations had the right to take possession of the lands of non-Christians to save their souls by Christianizing them. The Doctrine of Terra Nullius (vacant land) was considered to apply to land not yet occupied by Christians\, so sovereignty\, title and jurisdiction could be claimed over it. \nPlease join John Omielan\,  the Social Justice Team and the IPA Team to discuss a Resolution on the Endorsement of the CUC Motion to Repudiate the Doctrine of Discovery and of Terra Nullius. The SJ Team will request that the board submit this resolution for a vote by the VanU congregation at the June AGM. \nThe text of the resolution can be found here. \nThis resolution builds on the work that members of the Environment\, IPA and SJ teams started in 2022.  Here is a recording  of the Doctrine of Discovery and Terra Nullius Forum held on November 20\, 2022. DESCRIPTION:Winter Circle Worship – Staying Present Amidst Chaos\nCircle Worship is an intimate and participatory style of worship featuring ritual\, togetherness\, and reflection. Unitarian Universalist youth have been creating this style of worship for decades but it is enjoyed by and accessible to all ages. \nCircle Worship is open to everyone; come fill your spirit! Wednesday\, February 26th in the Fireside Room\, 6:00-7:30 pm. Theme this month: Being Present\, to this moment\, amidst uncertainty. Rev. Shawn and Kiersten are planning a time of music\, singing\, bearing witness to the chaos unfolding in our world right now and countering our anxiety through creation. Central to the worship will be a time of creation and contemplation. Materials will be provided for writing\, drawing\, sculpting\, manipulating\, moving\, dancing\, and simply being with the music. \nWe will start with dinner at 6:00 pm–bring food to share and/or RSVP to join the pizza order.  Ritual starts at 6:45 and we will end by 7:30 pm. Donations towards future food fund accepted\, not required. \nAttending with Children\nChildren are welcomed to attend and participate with a caregiver–there will be floor space and movement space available. Worship and Ritual are meaningful for children\, but sometimes group worship can be challenging. If you’re wondering whether to attend with your child\, things to consider are: It will be about 45 min long; there will be listening and singing and creating time; does your child mostly self-direct and self-regulate or do they need your active attention and guidance? Do they enjoy being in contemplative spaces with mixed ages? If they need very active attention and guidance\, how do you feel about co-regulating with them vs. fully experiencing the worship for yourself? \nPlease RSVP below so that we know how much pizza to order and how many chairs to set out. (RSVP’s after Tuesday night may not get counted for pizza–but you are still welcome to attend!) \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:New dancers welcome! \nDances are held the first Tuesday of every month.  Our Theme for March is Awakening the Earth: Awakening Ourselves. \nOur February dance was cancelled due to snow and icy conditions. Early March is well past Imbolc – the mid-point of winter – and while we will be just a couple of weeks away from the spring equinox\, we are still in the space between winter and spring.  Rebecca Douglas says that “The liminal energy of Imbolc\, the space and threshold between winter and spring\, hold profound lessons for how we navigate change in our own lives. It reminds us that growth often begins in subtle\, unseen ways\, and that embracing these transitions can lead to transformation.” \nThrough dance\, we will explore how this liminal energy can provide guidance to us through these difficult times. DESCRIPTION:VanU Partner Church Team\nThis Sunday\, come celebrate the near-completion of the church we built with our Burundian partners! Our celebratory service will include talks by our own Burundian refugees\, a song by our choir in Burundi’s national language and a rendition of the Burundi’s moving national anthem. \nThere will also be (back by popular demand) African drum and dance videos at the end of the service.
