DESCRIPTION:A young activist\, Jess Serrante\, has created a 10-part podcast entitled ‘We Are The Great Turning‘ with the revered 95 year-old activist\, Joanna Macy. She approached Joanna about sharing her work in this way\, and Joanna agreed\, being aware of her limited time left on this earth\, and her awareness of how important it is to get The Work That Reconnects out into the world in these deeply troubled times. She recommends strongly that this work be done in community. \nJess and Joanna are imagining us all there with them sitting at Joanna’s kitchen table. Hearing Joanna’s voice as she shares her deep\, expansive wisdom is deeply moving and her process is very helpful in processing the fear and grief many of us are experiencing\, so that it can move us to action in a challenge mindset rather than reactivity or shutdown in fear and grief. The podcast includes much more than just words\, but includes the experiential elements as are shared in the 2 day retreat. Join me in Biddle at 12:30 every first Sunday beginning on November 3rd. DESCRIPTION:Join us for two important and informative films about how we can support wild salmon in BC. \nClayoquot Sound is a place of wonder—a globally significant rainforest and coastline\, home to whales\, wolves and bears. The First Nations people of this coast are known as salmon people\, their culture thrived here for millennia sustained by abundant wild salmon. All this and more is threatened by open net-pen salmon farms. \nFish farming is pushing wild salmon to the brink of extinction. The federal government has promised to remove fish farms from BC waters by 2025\, but now industry is pushing back with false solutions. This film looks at the impacts of salmon farming through the eyes of those fighting to protect wild salmon from extinction. \nAll welcome. DESCRIPTION:Join Kiersten Moore and Casey Stainsby this Thursday at the Opening Ceremony for All Souls at Mountain View Cemetery. We will meet near the entrance at 5:45 pm to make it to the ceremony site for 6pm. This event has been held annually since 2005; It is personal and non-denominational\, with an artistic and communal atmosphere that speaks to our Unitarian Universalist principles. \nAll Souls at Mountain View Cemetery is an artist led annual event to honour our dead. It was conceived by artists Paula Jardine & Marina Szijarto. Over the years\, they have been joined by others who have shared their love and regard for their dead. \n“In many cultures around the world\, the days at the end of October and beginning of November are considered an important time for honouring the dead in our lives. In our modern\, urban\, and relatively transient culture\, traditional “village” customs have been left behind\, though not the human impulses that led to these traditions.” \nHeld during the last days of October\, people are invited to light candles\, write messages\, and leave personal memorials to remember their dead in an atmosphere of contemplative beauty. DESCRIPTION:For this online event on Wednesday nights\, we start with a talk about meditation given by Victoria Oginski\, how-to\, purpose and pitfalls. \nThe second half is a shared silent meditation\, based on traditional Buddhist techniques. Victoria Oginski\, has been a dedicated meditator for over 45 years. She is a Buddhist and has studied with many extraordinary Buddhist masters over the years in Canada\, Nepal\, India\, and Tibet. \nAlthough informed by Buddhist principles\, the facilitation is more universal in approach and everyone is welcome.
