SUMMARY:Breaking Bread: Family Centred Community Dinners
DESCRIPTION:Gather round for Vancouver Unitarians monthly Breaking Bread potluck! It’s a time each month when we circle back\, to be community together in a family-centred dinner for all ages (think of the broadest definition of family and you’ll find that you’re invited!). In a community as large as ours\, it’s easy to find our connections revolving around a small group without many chances to meet newcomers; it’s just as easy for newcomers to find themselves orbiting on the periphery of the congregation\, not sure how to connect with existing members. Breaking Bread is a chance to make those connections\, while celebrating the cycles of our lives and the wheel of the year. \nWith this month’s gathering landing on Pi Day (March 14th – 3.14)\, we’re celebrating all things pie/pi related! Vancouver Unitarians’ Men’s Group is hosting and will provide a few main dishes\, and you’re invited to please bring something to share if you are able. Maybe chicken pot pie\, or hand pies\, or shepherds’ pie\, or apple pie\, or pecan pie\, or cottage pie\, or shoofly pie\, frito pie\, or pizza pie! The possibilities of pie are truly endless! \nIn addition to the tasty meal\, we’ll have activities exploring circular symbols in spiritual traditions\, mathemagic tricks\, food/math trivia\, and much more! \nPlease RSVP below to let us know that you’re coming and how many friends you’re bringing!

Do you like sharing what you are currently creating?  Would you enjoy teaching folks of any age how to fix a hole in their favourite shirt or sew on a button? \nBack before 2020 interrupted life\, we used to have a monthly Make and Mend circle to extend and repurpose garments and fabric in our lives. This month’s dinner is an opportunity to share a skill you have around fibre arts\, learn from others\, get help fixing something and enjoy a meal together! \nWhat should I bring?\nPlease bring your curiosity\, something you want to mend\, or a project you are working on. \nFor our meal please bring something to share; a side dish\, dessert\, bread\, or drinks so that we will always have enough to fill our tummies as well as our spirits. Monthly themes revolve around connections\, skill sharing\, holidays\, rest\, and silliness. \nSeptember 27th is our first dinner – we are forming new Covenant Groups for the year and connecting with folks who have been meeting together for years to share wisdom on the beauty and depth of small groups.  Childcare staff is present to help keep an eye on children’s safety and inclusion so parents can participate freely. \nWho should plan to come? \n\nFamilies of all varieties and ages – however you define family\nLeaders or members of current covenant groups/identity groups that are open to new members\nAnyone who would like to join or form a small group this year\nPeople who have taken the small group facilitator training and could co-lead a new group\nMembers of current covenant groups willing to share their experience and wisdom\n\nWhat should I bring?\nPlease bring a side dish\, dessert\, or bread if you’re able. We will have a couple large pots of soup for our tummies and souls.
