DESCRIPTION:Gather round for Vancouver Unitarians monthly Breaking Bread potluck! It’s a time each month when we circle back\, to be community together in a family-centred dinner for all ages (think of the broadest definition of family and you’ll find that you’re invited!). In a community as large as ours\, it’s easy to find our connections revolving around a small group without many chances to meet newcomers; it’s just as easy for newcomers to find themselves orbiting on the periphery of the congregation\, not sure how to connect with existing members. Breaking Bread is a chance to make those connections\, while celebrating the cycles of our lives and the wheel of the year. \nWith this month’s gathering landing on Pi Day (March 14th – 3.14)\, we’re celebrating all things pie/pi related! Vancouver Unitarians’ Men’s Group is hosting and will provide a few main dishes\, and you’re invited to please bring something to share if you are able. DESCRIPTION:Wintering: A mini retreat for the winter solstice\n\nThe Vancouver Unitarian Earth Spirituality group invites you to spend some time with other creative souls on the longest night of the year.\n\nWinter is a time to focus on our inner life\, and yet the world sometimes pulls us out and about\, spinning us around.\n\nWe’ll gather in Hewett Hall\, cast a circle of sanctuary to protect us from the busy world outside. We’ll ritually bid farewell to whatever we are eager to leave behind from the past year.\n\nThen people will choose one of three workshops and spend 2 hours together\, whether circle dancing\, crafting garlands or reading and writing.\n\nThe workshops will be a way to connect with others and possibly make new friends.\n\nCome and experience the power of rest and retreat and enjoy a time of quiet joy in community with other creative souls.\n\nAt 4:30\, we gather in the hall together in a circle for a winter solstice ritual and to release directions and open the circle\, followed by a giveaway of pre-loved goods.\n\nAt 5:00\, go if you must\, stay if you will.  (Help with cleanup appreciated.)\nEarly registration is open now. \nTo make this a comfortable and cozy space\, we have a maximum enrollment. Do you like sharing what you are currently creating?  Would you enjoy teaching folks of any age how to fix a hole in their favourite shirt or sew on a button? \nBack before 2020 interrupted life\, we used to have a monthly Make and Mend circle to extend and repurpose garments and fabric in our lives. SUMMARY:Exploration Sunday: Learning from Ancestors
DESCRIPTION:Exploration Sundays happen the first Sunday of each month and are meant to be an animating time for the whole congregation. The morning service launches the month’s worship and small-group theme with different explorations of that theme in programming following a light lunch. The intent is to engage everyone in the community-building and learning that this approach offers\, and make it easier for other groups to schedule events without competing programs. \nWorship Service 11:00 – 11:45 am\nNovember’s meaning making theme is  “the practice of learning from our ancestors’ experiences. Many of our ancestors lived through times of great upheaval. What can they offer us right now?” \nRev Shawn will reflect on a Home for All Souls\, and as we enter a time of meditation\, we will lift up the names of those we have loved who have died. DESCRIPTION:Vancouver Unitarians is largely lay-led over the summer while ministry staff have vacation and study time in preparation for the new program year.  It is important for children of all ages to feel included and cared for no matter what time of year they attend. \nThis orientation is to support those able to volunteer to be available for children on 2 or more Sundays between July 6th and August 31st.
