Welcome Yule – Chalice Choir presents their Advent Concert
December 1 @ 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm
$20.00Wolcum Yole! Welcome Yule!
Combining the traditions of the pagan Yuletide with the medieval texts of Advent, the Vancouver Unitarians’ Chalice Choir presents their Advent Concert: Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols!
As Benjamin Britten set back to England from the USA during WWII, he stopped off in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he picked up a book of ancient manuscripts over 600 years old. On his voyage, instead of being terrified of torpedo attacks, he worked through his complicated relationship with these religious texts to create a brilliant musical setting celebrating the end of the darkness and welcoming back the journey to the light!
This “YOLE” afternoon concert, featuring an afternoon of lovely music written between 1624 to 2024 will feature our returning tenor Lead, Lyndon Ladeur, Harpist, Miya Otake, our wonderful accompanist, Elliott Dainow and conductor, David Buchan. Come celebrate this afternoon of beautiful music with us!
