Social Justice
The Social Justice team strives to find tangible ways to have an impact within our congregation and in the wider community.
These efforts include educating the congregation about social justice topics such as housing insecurity, food insecurity, systemic racism, systemic barriers to inclusion based on disability, harm reduction approaches to mental health issues, and especially ways to promote truth and reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, in particular the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations on whose lands we meet and reside.
The team seeks to encourage members to suggest specific social justice actions that we as a congregation or as individuals can plan, attend or promote. We have an online meeting on the 1st or 2nd Monday of the month at 7:00 pm. We do not generally meet during the summer months of June-August.
If you are interested in joining the team or would like to ask a question, please email the team chair: socialjustice[at]vanu[dot]ca
The Social Justice Team often hosts a forum after the service on a Sunday. Resources and slides presented in past forums can be found in the post: Social Justice Forum Resources.
