Circle Dance: Red Dress Day and more!

May 5 is known as Red Dress Day in Canada. Red Dress Day honours the thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, 2-spirit and gender diverse people in Canada. We will dance in solidarity with the families and communities that are working for justice, healing and change.
In Mexican culture, May 5th is Cinco de Mayo, Battle of Puebla Day, and so we celebrate this as well as the May 1st Celtic festival known as May Day and International Workers Day, which originated in the late 19th century to commemorate the fight for an 8-hour day. While many workers have benefited from this historic victory, many groups of workers still work long hours to feed their children and pay the rent.
We will weave these diverse threads in our dances on May 5th. Please join us in solidarity, community and in celebration. And don’t hesitate to wear red!
This is a welcoming circle for new and experienced dancers alike. All dances will be taught.
