Memorial Service for Ben Hechter

A Memorial Service for Ben Hechter will be held at UCV on Friday, November 17, at 2 pm. Following the service, light refreshments will be served in Hewett Centre. All welcome.
Ben was a long-time member of the Folk, enjoyed singing and playing guitar and mandolin, and participated in a wide array of musical events over many years. The VFSS website has a personal remembrance from one of Ben’s friends from the Folk Festival.

Benjamin Koliger Hechter was born December 17th, 1950 and lived until January 21, 2023
Benjamin was born in Winnipeg, lived in Trail and during formative years, the family moved to St. Louis, and then to L.A. where he completed high school, & UCLA, he returned to Canada about mid 70’s and settled in Vancouver, much later in the late 90’s did a Masters at Phoenix University.
Ben worked for as a Trainer and Technical writer mostly for Nortel and travelled to Britian and Europe for the company, which he resourcefully piggybacked with further travels. When Nortel sunk, he managed to continue with a branch in New York, digitally, not many were doing that then. He also taught at downtown BCIT, he designed their first introductory computer course.
Ben was inquisitive, imaginative (how to-ideas), loved new experiences, and learning. Being outdoors on his bike, camping, kayaking, volunteering, playing music with the jazz group, singing with Chico’s Gospel Choir, and with Barkley house, friendship and music, Hollyburn boating club, tai chi in strathcona, and carnival band. He cast his net far and wide and enjoyed as much as he could over time. He fought for the wild salmon doing the walk from Victoria – Vancouver. Later from Vancouver to Adams lake, he was passionate about it.
Ben was married to Rosalie Nyback in 1990, and settled on the west coast and had one daughter, Katarina.
