Event Series Event Series: Second Sunday Book Group

Second Sunday Book Group

March 10 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Hybrid Hybrid Event

The Vancouver Unitarians’ Second Sunday Book Group meets after the Sunday service on the second Sunday of each month (except July and August). We meet at 12:30 pm in the Biddle room and online at (

For March’s meeting, we will discuss Walden by Henry David Thoreau. Most long-time Unitarians will need no introduction to Thoreau. Along with other Transcendentalists, some of whom were his friends and neighbours, he was involved in the beginning of Unitarianism in America. Walden, published in 1854, was written while Thoreau lived in a cabin he built at Walden Pond (1845-47). Part nature book, part do-it yourself guide to simple living, and part a biting critique of contemporary society, the book can also be read as a guidebook to the spiritual life, or  what he and his fellow Transcendentalists called “self-culture,” the cultivation of the soul. Everyone is welcome.
