Sunday Service – Into the Swamp: The importance of feeling our feelings

Casey Stainsby
Can’t go over it. Can’t go under it. Can’t go around it. Gotta go through it! It’s good advice for those who are going on a bear hunt (or at least singing about doing so while sitting around a campfire). It’s also good advice for those who feel things… that is, all of us. Try as we may to explain our emotions, or ignore them, or fix them, or find any number of ways around them, our feelings ask to be felt. Let’s bravely wade into the swamp together. We may find that being with what is opens up new possibilities previously unimagined.
Casey Stainsby (she/her) is an aspirant for Unitarian Universalist ministry. These days her time is spent supporting the children’s programs here at the Vancouver Unitarians, doing homework, and connecting with her beloveds. This fall she will also be facilitating Good Grief Workshops with Learning Through Loss, teaching highschoolers and the adults in their lives all about grief and loss.
